The Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences
was established in 1967 as the first super specialty
centre at AIIMS. In 2003, 170,037 new cases were registered
and 20961 surgeries performed. The R.P.Centre has
the largest residency program with 75 post graduate
students in Ophthalmology at any point in time. There
are 302 beds available including a 24 bed Community
Ward. The hospital offers all specialty services under
one roof. The Centre offers training for MBBS, B.Sc
(Nursing and Ophthalmic Techniques), MD (Ophthalmology)
and Ph.D programs. There are 40 faculty and 33 post
MD Senior Residents working at the Centre. A round
the clock Casualty and the National Eye bank are functional
in the Centre.
